I would like to create a bootable USB stick to read/upgrade the current BIOS. I have tried to follow the instructions given. I downloaded the sp41877. Cornell Note Taking Method Custom Pdf Generator In Php here. exe file and tried to create a bootable FreeDOS USB thumbdrive. However, the so called 'instruction' are utter garbage. At this point it is just anyones guess what to do with the newly extracted files. In those new folders there are two more executable files, i.e. Sp41877u.exe and sp41877d.exe. I assume that the 'u' and 'd' refers to the chipset in the notebook, 'u' is for the MDU68 and 'd' refers to the MDD68 chipset. After some research I found out that I have the MDU68 chipset in my notebook.
Again, without any helpful hints or instruction from HP. After executing 'sp41877.exe' yet another folder was extracted, yet again without any hints or instructions on how to create the bootable USB media. I did try a lot to get the files on to a bootable USB stick. The best I got is to get the USB stick to boot and display 'FreeDOS' and a blinking cursor on a black screen and then nothing else happened. Does any know how to make a bootable USB thumbrive to upgrade/read the BIOS from FreeDOS? By read I mean, I want to read out and save the entire binary file that is currently stored in ROM. I want to be able to check and verify if it has been tempered with.
This video will help you take your HP/Compaq laptop back to factory when you do not have recovery discs, but only the hard drive recovery partition to work from! If your original drive is fine, but windows has died on you then you won't have to buy a new drive. If your original drive is dieing and you are not able to boot into windows or fix windows, but you can copy the other partitions info to a new drive, then this video should be able to help you out as well. That file is HPCD.SYS. If you are using a newer laptop, (mine was made in 2010) then you will need to search for hpdcru.prc Quoted from napisr on youtube. Download Free Commander 2. Open D: Drive in Free Commander, assuming D is the recovery partition on your hp laptop computer 3. Find and Delete a file named HPCD.SYS in D: drive root folder.
In newer HP systems, the fine name is hpdrcu.prc and its present in three locations. Search and delete hpdrcu.prc. Navigate to the windows folder at C: Windows SMINST and delete another file with the same name HPCD.SYS 5.
