Yeah look i have the exact same problem. With a HP color laserjet 2820 ps that i have connected to a vista pc that i have just bought for my office. My xp pc is the old one and therefore will be the one connecting through my vista pc.

I've tried basically everything i can think of and as the printer was originally connected to this computer anyway i can tell you that the drivers are installed and working, just to be sure i downloaded the latest drivers for this printer anyway for the xp machine. I can see the printer on the network but when i try to connect to it through the network i get these messages: ' you are about to connect to a printer over the network which will install a driver on your machine, drivers may contain viruses blah blah etc etc. Would you like to continue?' YES ' the server for the HP Color Laserjet 2800 Series PS printer does not have the correct printer driver installed.

Otherwise, click cancel and contact your network admin or original equipment manufacturer for the correct printer driver.' OK This then brings up a locate printer driver manually box. I link it to the drivers i have downloaded off the internet (i now have about 5 different ones including the ones off the cd that came with the printer to try). ERROR: Windows cannot locate a suitable driver. Contact your system administrator locating a suitable driver to install. Other things i've tried, i thought maybe the network name it was shared as with vista would be a problem because it has spaces in it so i changed it to one word 'printer'.
Ummm that's really about all i can think to try. Don't try and tell me to connect to it different ways because i've tried adding a local printer with drivers.
I've tried browsing to it on the other computer then clicking connect and i've tried connecting to it using All take me to the same point where i have to find the non-existent drivers that are non-existent lol;) I've also called the HP helpline and got the response 'we don't recommend having it configured this way on 2 different operating systems. They recommend calling microsoft as it is to do with the operating systems.
There's no way i can upgrade this other computer to vista as it does not have the components to handle vista. So yeah I've just tried to give you as much information as i can here, and remember all the things i've tried so if you guys can sort out a solution here for me that'd be fantastic. Won't be able to be back on here till later this arvo but i will check back and help you with any questions you may have.
I tried with drivers i had downloaded etc. And they all installed fine but i was unable to see the printer over the network. I unistalled everything then put the driver CD that had come with the printer back in and ran the install one last time and at the end it said something like locate the printer over the network, which i clicked and the installer found the printer!!!!! So that's basically it.
